What is the significance of fingerprint quality?

Your CBC may take twice or even three times as long if the FBI rejects your fingerprints. Each year, about 400 fingerprints are rejected by the CBCP office. Seventy-five percent of those who have been rejected again submit acceptable prints. As a result, they would have only been fingerprinted once if they had followed these guidelines the first time.

Fingerprints with low quality can be caused by a number of factors.

Fingerprints can be rejected under the following circumstances:

  1. Hands should be washed and disinfected frequently
  2. Activities requiring fingertips, such as weightlifting, rock climbing, gardening, and playing the guitar
  3. Handling or typing paper frequently or regularly
  4. Chemical exposures, including bleach, chlorine, acetone, and antibacterial agents
  5. With age, skin becomes smoother and harder to capture ridges
  6. The skin of some ethnic groups is naturally fine/smooth.

Follow these tips to make your fingerprints look better:

  • You can avoid fingerprint rejection by moisturizing your fingers. For several days leading up to your fingerprinting appointment, apply lotion to your hands 2-3 times a day. Your appointment day should be suitable for you to get Fingerprinting for People Abroad.
  • Consider using RCMP Accredited Fingerprinting rather than ink if possible. Prints made with ink are acceptable, but images produced with digital equipment are more accurate.
  • It is important to note that the CBCP will transmit your prints digitally. Digital fingerprints taken at any other location must be printed onto FD-258 cards and mailed to CBCP in hard copy.
  • You should avoid activities that are hard on your fingertips several days before your fingerprinting appointment to maximize fingerprint quality.
  • A few days of using lotion and avoiding harmful activities will probably be enough for most people. Plan if you believe you have low-quality fingerprints due to several of the “common causes.” categories.
